The College was established in 1916 at Lahore (now in Pakistan) by Mahamana Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya ji,Pt. Rishi Ram ji and Maharaja of Darbanga . It was re-established at Ambala Cantt in 1948 by untiring efforts of Tyagmurti Goswami Ganesh Dutt ji, Dewan Ragunath Sahai ji and Pt. Rishi Ram ji. Its foundation stone at Ambala was laid by the first President of free India , late Babu Rajendra Prasad ji. The college is run by S.D. College Society, New Delhi, the parent body of which is Sanatan Dharma Pratinidhi Sabha (Punjab), New Delhi. Its Working area extends to Punjab,Haryana , HP, Chandigarh, New Delhi , U.P. , Uttranchal and Rajasthan. It runs over 22 colleges and 80 schools in the above states . Besides this college , the S.D.College society , New Delhi runs the following institutions in Ambala: D.K.K.D.S.D. Adarsh Sanskrit College,D.H.K.D.S.D. Public School,S.D. Public School Toddlers.
With over 2800 students on its rolls, the college today is a premier, multi-faculty, co-educational institute of higher education in Northern India. It has been awarded the Status of 'College with Potential for Excellence' by University Grants Commission,New Dehli.

Talent Finding Contest in sd college

Talent Finding Contest

Each year in the beginning of the session a Talent Finding Contest under the aegis of Youth and Cultural Affairs Department, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra is held to bring out the hidden talents of the students. This year the contest was held on 16^th September 2010. Students from  various faculties of the college participated in cultural and literary items. Dr Desh Bandhu, Principal of the college, inaugurated the function by lighting ‘Deep Shikha’.He informed the students about the importance of co-curricular activities in human life and also congratulated the students on their enthusiastic participation.
